Drug Crime

Michele Traverso, 25, of Key Biscayne, was sentenced to 21 days in prison on Friday for a drug case in 2009.

Last week, Traverso hit cyclists, Aaron Cohen, 36, and Enda Walsh, 48 on Wednesday morning.

Traverso was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury and driving with a suspended license. Cohen and Walsh were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Cohen underwent brain surgery, and later died on Thursday.

According to Walsh, “We were cycling up the Key Biscayne bridge side-by-side, in the bike lane, having a conversation. We didn’t even see anything…Then there was a loud bang and the next thing you know I was on the ground and Aaron was 30 feet up the road lying on his back on the road not moving.”

Traverso turned himself in on Wednesday. The accident is still under investigation, and Traverso could face more charges.
